Asus Hackintosh
If you are using OS X Lion (v 10.7) to restore your image file to your USB stick, then you will NOT be able to get this installation to run. When Lion was made, tweaks to Disk Utility (specifically the restoration process for restoring disk images to other places [such as your USB stick/SD card] created problems with hackintosh users all over the place. If you are attempting my guide (or most others for that matter), you need to use a computer with either OS X Leopard (v 10.5) or Snow Leopard (v 10.6). These both have safe versions of disk utility to restore the image file to your USB stick. Lion will NOT WORK.

Hey Guys,
So I’ve been busy with schoolwork, but I have also been trying to do hackintosh for over a year now. I have the Asus 1005hab-blu001x netbook, but this should work with any 1005ha/1005hab and maybe the 1000H/1000HE netbooks.
Things you will need:
1) A mac, or access to a mac with disk utility (SEE ABOVE ABOUT DISK UTILITY PROBLEMS WITH OS X LION V 10.7!)
2) A retail version of Snow Leopard 10.6
3) A usb (or, preference, an 8gb SD Card)
4) A USB keyboard and mouse)
5) Time…lots of time
6) and Patience too

Ok, here we go
1) First step you want to do is get ahold of a RETAIL (and i stress the retail part because you cannot use an OEM version of the disk, since they are specifically tied to the computer you bought it with) version of Snow Leopard (and it has to be the 10.6 version, not the 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 retail disks). Next, you want to make a disk image of the DVD (go to disk utility , select the DVD, and click the “New Image” button at the top to create the image. Save the image where ever you would like.

2) While your computer is creating the disk image, you want to go ahead and download my hackintosh package (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15709708/1005HA%28B%29%20Hackintosh%20Pack.zip).

3) When the disk image has been made, you can eject the DVD and insert either an (at least) 8gb USB drive OR an 8gb SD Card. I like the SD card option because I always keep it in my netbook so I never lose it. If you quit disk utility, go back in and select the usb/sd card and click the erase tab. You have to format the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

4) Once the drive has been formatted, then you want to drag the disk image (where ever you put it) to the left bar right below the DVD drive. This will create an icon below everything else for easy access. Go to the partition of the usb/sd card (which is directly under and indented of the main drive. Then go to the “restore” tab. Under the “source” you want to drag that icon of the disk image from the left and place it in the empty white bar. Under destination, you want to select the partition (or the entire) usb/sd card. When thats all set, click the “Restore” button in the lower right corner. This can take up to 30 mins to complete, so go take a bathroom break or get yourself a cold beer.

5) When you come back, the disk image should be successfully restore to the flash drive. DO NOT EJECT THE FLASH DRIVE. We’re not done with it yet. Go to the folder that you downloaded and select the “myhack_installer_1.1.mpkg”. This requires concentration, because one wrong move, and you can ruin your real mac. Continue through all the license agreements, etc til you get to where it asks you to install the files. Make SURE that you click your usb/sd card. Double and triple check this (I cannot stress it enough. i am not responsible for any damage or lost data to your mac). Click the continue button. Now dont just click the install button. Instead, go the to customize button in the lower left corner of the window. The following things need to be selected, and nothing else: Core (which should automatically be checked and you cant change that), com.apple.Boot.plist, EvOreboot.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, and SleepEnabler.kext. Thats is. After those are checked, click the “Install” button in the lower left corner and give yourself a 10 minute break.
When you come back, the installer should be all finished and give you a “congratulations” screen. You can now click the “Done” button, which will quit the myhack installer.

6) Ok, so you’ve created your hackintosh usb/sd card. Great. Now get your USB Keyboard and mouse ready and plug them into your computer. Shut down the netbook, and once you’ve started it, hold the ESC button down, and select your USB drive (or if you’re using your SD card it will say “Media Card” or something to that effect. Select that, and Select your usb/sd card when Chameleon (the bootloader) comes up. It will take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to be greeted by the Snow Leopard Installer, so be patient. Once booted, you will be greeted with a language selection. After selecting your language, click the “Utilities” menu from the top and select “disk utility”. Once open, select your hard drive, go to the “Partition” tab. Where it says “custom” in the drop down menu, select “1 Partition”. Then, go to the lower left corner where it says “options” and click the “GUID Partition Table” part. Then click partition. This wipes all the data off your netbook so make sure you have any OS backed up before this.

7) After this is done, progress through the installation until you get right before the “Install” button. Click the customize button. Here you want to customize what the disk installs (Fonts, languages, etc). I personally don’t install any printer drivers or languages. What you NEED TO INSTALL is Rosetta. This is a good tool and really necessary for a lot of things within OS X.
Now, go to the fridge and grab another beer. This portion of the install takes from 20-40 mins to finish. At the end, if you get an “Install Failed” screen, just click the restart button, snow leopard DID install.
Ok. So you’ve installed Snow Leopard. Now you need to be able to boot from your hard drive instead of that big old piece of junk hanging off your computer. Now you need to be very careful in following these steps. I had to wipe and reinstall about 10 times in the last 2 weeks til I finally stopped being so hasty and took my time.

8) So. Shut your computer completely down. Turn it on and hold ESC so you can boot from the USB again. Yes, the usb, not the hard drive. When the Chameleon bootloader appears, select your internal hard drive, not the USB/sd card. At this point, you should be greeted by a setup section for Snow Leopard (if not, follow the same thing, except before hitting enter to go into the internal hard drive, type -v and post what you find is the problem with the bootup process. At this point, fill out all the info, etc etc. If you have another mac, DO NOT TRANSFER ANY DATA! When you select this option, it will take the updated Kernel and everything and you’ll have to restart the entire process once again.

9) Finally, you will get to the Desktop on Snow Leopard. Congrats, give yourself a pat on the back. The easy part is over. Now slow your mind down, because you need a lot of patience with this part. Use a different USB drive and copy the folder that you downloaded with the myhack_installer_1.1 and all that stuff and copy it onto the NEW USB. Then, plug that into the netbook. What you want to do is run the myhack_installer_1.1 on the netbook again, select the same things, but have it install onto the internal hard drive (not the USB drive). This process will take about 5-15 mins.

10) Once that is done, go to the Extras folder from that package you downloaded and transfer all that to the /Extras folder in the hard drive (go to the finder, select “Macintosh HD” and go to the extras folder in there). Copy everything into this folder, and replace all the files it asks to replace.

11) In the folder you downloaded, go to the /system/library/extentions folder and copy all the files in there into the same folder on the hard drive (go to “Macintosh HD”, /system/library/extention and paste all the .kext files in there.

12) Next, go to folder you downloaded and go to the Sound folder. Double click the VoodooHDA.prefPane and install for all users. This will turn out an error. Just click Ok and ignore this.

13) Finally, navigate to the “Macintosh HD” again and double click the “pfix” terminal code, type your password, and let this run. This can take anywhere from 5-20 mins. When terminal says “Process Complete. Logout”, quit terminal and restart your netbook. This time, you can remove both the installer USB/sd and the other USB.
Ok, so you’ve installed Snow Leopard and its at the right resolution, etc. But I presume you want to be able to update? Ok, this is how you do it.
Right now, you are on 10.6.0. But a lot of programs require you to be on at least 10.6.2. We’re going to get you to 10.6.5. This part is just time consuming, but not terribly difficult.

14) Download the 10.6.4 Combo update. I stress the COMBO UPDATE part. Now, go to the /Macintosh HD/system/library/extentions folder and backup the “AppleIntelGMA950.kext” and the “AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext”. Simply right click them and select copy and paste them onto your desktop.

15) Mount the 10.6.4 update and run it. This will take about 10-20 mins so go pee from those 2 beers, and on your way back, grab a third. Once this is done, DO NOT PRESS THE RESTART BUTTON! Minimize the window because you will need to hit that button later.

16) Plug the USB that has the downloaded folder on it and go the to Mach Kernel 10.6.4 folder. Copy that Kernel file to your desktop.

17) Now open terminal and type the following commands
*sudo -s (and then enter password)
*cd /
*mv mach_kernel mach_kernel_1062
*cp ~/Desktop/mach_kernel_atom /
* mv /mach_kernel_atom mach_kernel
*chown 0:0 mach_kernel
The “*” above are not what you type into terminal, they are just bullet points.
At this point you can restart your computer using the Installer Update window you minimized. If all goes well you will be back in OS X updated to 10.6.4, but with the graphics at the wrong resolution again.

18) Copy the Kexts you have on your desktop back into /system/library/extentions. Also, navigate to the USB that has the downloaded folder on it and go to the Wifi folder, called “IO80211Family.kext”. Copy the wifi kext into the /system/library/extentions folder too.

19) Now run pfix again (located in Macintosh HD). This will take 10-20 mins or even less, depending. After its finished, restart and your graphics AND STOCK WIFI should be working perfectly! Congrats! Now we need to update to 10.6.5

20) In order to update to 10.6.5, you need to download the 10.6.5 COMBO UPDATE! Once you download it, repeat steps 1-6 again, only you’ll find the new Kernel in the “Mach Kernel 10.6.5” this time, and backup the “IO80211Family.kext” in addition to the other 2 graphics kexts from before.

Adjust Brightness:
1) The first thing you have to download is a program called Spark. It is widely used by the Hackintosh community, so I’m sure you guys have heard of it before. You can download it at (http://www.shadowlab.org/Software/spark.php).
2) Once you install it, go to it and select “file from the dropdown menu, new hotkey, and System. In the “shortcut” space, I like to use Control-and the F# keys that correspond with the FN keys from windows. Makes it easier to just look down and see the pictures and know they are for that purpose. Do this for Mute, Volume Down, and Volume Up. When making each of the shortcuts, make sure you check the boxes at the bottom that say “Display Notification Icon” and “Play Feedback when volume is changed”. After you make the shortcuts, click the green button on the bottom of the Spark window, which says “Start Spark Daemon”.
3) As for brightness, since we installed a Brightness kext already, you should be able to use the FN keys like you normally would in windows. Unfortunately, theres no way to make a spark shortcut for these

Battery Meter on 1GB systems:
If you only have 1gb in your netbook, and don’t expect to update to 2gb, you have to change your DSDT file. I personally recommend upgrading to 2gb, because OS X will run a lot faster. But if you don’t feel like spending the extra money…here’s what you have to do:
edit your DSDT file and change the following…
change it from:

Its a .pkg file that supposedly enables the Asus Netbook Hotkeys within OS X. I have NO EXPERIENCE using this package, so I have no idea if it works or not. This HAS THE POTENTIAL to cause a Kernel Panic, so you should only do this at your own risk. I will also post this on my blog for an update.
You might want to check your bios and make sure all the settings are where they should be set to (such as hard drive being set to ACPI, etc.
THIS CAN CAUSE A KERNEL PANIC. Backup your docs, etc before attempting this.

This is how to update to 10.6.6 using the Apple 10.6.6 Combo Update
1) If you do not have the 10.6.5 kernel anymore (the 10.4.0 kernel), then go back to my blog and download the link to the package I have hosted. Once you do, move the 10.6.5 Kernel (located within the 10.6.5 Kernel folder) to the desktop.
2) Backup the AppleIntelGMA950.kext, the AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext, and the IO802Family.kextYou can simply just make a folder on your desktop to keep it simple.
3) Run the 10.6.6 Combo Update, but when it prompts you to restart your netbook, minimize or hide the window.
4) Then follow the command line prompts I have said to use, which i will repost below:
*sudo -s (and then enter password)*cd /*mv mach_kernel mach_kernel_1062*cp ~/Desktop/mach_kernel_atom /* mv /mach_kernel_atom mach_kernel*chown 0:0 mach_kernel

5) Go back to the 10.6.6 Combo Update window and click the restart button. Once the computer boots back up, replace the kexts you backed up to the /system/library/extentions folder.
6) Go to the root of your Macintosh HD drive and run pfix. Once this is done, restart your computer and you should be completely updated to 10.6.6
NOTE: Some people are saying that there have been some problems with the Sleep feature on the hackintosh. If you fear that this may happen, I would recommend backing up your SleepEnabler.kext file as well and restoring it with the other kexts after updating.

The new legacy Kernel was released for the 10.6.7 update. There is a new package way to update to 10.6.7 and upgrade the kernel, but I do NOT recommend doing this. There are too many ways to make mistakes. Here’s how you update.

Download the apple 10.6.7 COMBO UPDATE from HERE
There are 2 ways of doing this guide. I will post both and you decide which to go with.
Once the combo update is downloaded, go ahead and backup the following kexts:
IO80211Family.kext
AppleIntelGMA950.kext
AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext
Method 1
This is the older way of doing this, which has worked for me. Run the combo update. Once it is done, it will prompt you to restart. DO NOT RESTART! Minimize or hide the window. Move the old 10.6.5 kernel (found in the original download that you used get to 10.6.5) to your desktop. Then open Terminal and enter the following codes (same as last time).
*sudo -s (and then enter password)
*cd /
*mv mach_kernel mach_kernel_1062
*cp ~/Desktop/mach_kernel_atom /
* mv /mach_kernel_atom mach_kernel
*chown 0:0 mach_kernel
(again the stars are NOT included)
Once this is done, restart using the combo update window. After your computer boots, replace all the kexts you backed up and also put in the new SleepEnabler kext from the updated download into your /System/Library/Extentions folder. Then run pfix again. Restart. You should be updated to 10.6.7 and have everything working.
Method 2 (I DID NOT USE THIS METHOD AND DO NOT LIKE IT!)
Run the combo update. This could take a while, so be prepared to do some waiting. Once this is done, it’s going to prompt you to restart. Like the previous updates, DO NOT RESTART! Just minimize the window for now.
At this point, you want to run the legacy_kernel-10.7.0.pkg. This will update your kernel to the new version (10.7.o legacy kernel) and replace the SleepEnabler kext for you. You can now restart. On bootup, replace the backed up kexts and run pfix. Restart again.
Like I said, I do not support Method #2 because I did not use it myself. There is no difference between using the new legacy kernel and the old method. I personally like the first method because it is safer to use with the way we have updated to 10.6.5 and 10.6.6.

You have to update to 10.6.5 or at least 10.6.4 to get sleep working. By just installing 10.6.0 you won’t have many of the things working for the install

First off, This is the best guide on the internet for this and thank you very much. Second, after I run the 10.6.4 combo update my screen goes black and the computer becomes unresponsive. I very seldom ask question very vague like this but without an error code I’m left with little to information to research.

I have yet to hear about this black screen problem. Did you restart and then the screen is black, or the screen goes black right after the 10.6.4 update’s install? It’s hard to say what this issue is and/or what is causing it. Please provide me with as much detail as possible.

You don’t need to update, but if you want the lastest softwares, sometimes they require you to be on a certain patch number. For example, if you wanted the new Mac App Store on your hackintosh, you’d need to upgrade to 10.6.6 (or find a way to install it manually like I did before I found the way to upgrade). I’m glad you enjoyed the guide and I’m glad my guide is reaching areas around the world.

hi, just an amazing guide, i followed from the a to the z, just a beauty. i just have two little problem, i’ve an asus eeepc 1000ha and the only things that didn’t work are the sound and the touchpad, do you know what i’ve to do in order for this things to work???
As far as those go, I am not very sure which kexts you need specifically. If you search through the InsanelyMac forums for that model and i’m sure you can find the kexts you need.

Man I love you for this… if it works it’s just great. I’ve had 10.6.2 working for months now, but only got a G wifi card. I’ll try to put back inside the stock wifi and see how it goes, if it reaches N speed and so on. I’ll try next week and post results here.
more times than not, the stock wifi will not reach the N speed. The way the driver (kext) was written, it cannot connect to N-speed routers. For N-speed routers, you have to turn the speed down to G.

PLEASE read the comments on all the different posts. I have answered this question multiple times. The my hack installer does not extract the pfix file to the Macintosh HD like it should and as a result you have to extract it yourself. Refer to the comments for details on how to do this.

try deleting the trackpad kext, restart, reinstall the kext, restart, and it should work.
where do I find the trackpad kext…. does not seem to be in the /system/library/extensions folder…
and what do I use to remove it and replace it? pfix?
Also, sound does not work… it sees the output and inputs but nothing plays through them… just says “fixed”
When I tried the Netbookinstaller method, sound worked great but unfortunately noting else other than wifi…

First of all, thank you for an excellent guide. I’ve followed it to the tee and everything is working awesome on my 1005HA. However, as noted I’ve had to turn my airport extreme down to just A/B/G wireless for my 1005HA to connect successfully. I’d like to have wireless N if possible.
So my question is, if I were to replace the internal wifi card with a Dell DW1510 half-size mini (which has been recommended elsewhere because OSX natively supports the BCM94322 chip), could I simply copy “IO80211Family.kext” from my mac mini to get back to the default drivers? If so, would I then rerun pfix?
The dell card you are talking about is also a G card, not N. The 1510 half size is a Wireless-G card (I also have that one in addition to my Atheros 9285 card. You SHOULD NOT COPY that kext from your mac mini. The kexts on the original mac are MADE FOR macs and macbook pros. The IO80211Family.kext on real macs are not designed for hackintosh. Do not use them. To just answer the question about running pfix, you have to run pfix after each new kext you install/put in the s/l/e folder.
To be honest, there is not a major difference between Wireless-N and Wireless-G. The major difference is the range of the actual wireless. There are some speed and download/upload benefits, but unless you’re gaming on your hackintosh netbook (which you really can’t do extensive gaming), or running a lot of intensive internet-related windows, then Wireless-G will suffice.

Bummer, apparently I misread the specs on the Dell DW1510 half size card. My real issue is that I’d like to enable 802.11N on my airport extreme router in order for other devices to take advantage of the benefits of N vs G. It is unfortunate that I have to turn off N for everything on my wireless network in order for the Net book to connect successfully. Unless I am doing something wrong, my 1005HA will only connect after turning off N on my airport extreme router. Any suggestions?

You have to get a dual band router at that point. Your airport extreme must be an older model if it doesn’t have that capability. Dual band routers have 2 antennas in them: one for N connections and one for G/B/A. Thats the only way you will get both kinds of devices working.
Zach, I have the stock wireless in my Asus 1005HAB and was able to [finally] get it onto my wireless network with my Airport Extreme set to the wireless mode: “802.11a/n – 802.11g only”.
To see a longer list of connection options in the Airport Utility, hold down the key while clicking on the Radio Mode dropdown menu. My Macbook Pro now connects at ‘n’ speeds while my Asus netbook connects at ‘g’.

Well now, 1005HA here. I did everything to the letter (with 16gb SD card) until point 6. I booted up the eee, and got a kernet panic almost immediately. Tried to mirror the SD card content on an internal HD partition and boot from there but got the same result.
Got 2gb RAM and switched the stock wifi already, might this be an issue? Guess not, anyway…
Wait, are you trying to get the installation to boot, or have you installed Snow Leopard and you are trying to get OS X to boot now? I am confused.

it sounds like the my hack on the sd card didn’t install properly. try recreating the SD card and then try to boot from it again.

1000HE is very different from the 1005ha/1005hab. You have to check on the insanelymac forums for the proper kexts for the 1000he sound/trackpad kexts, since they require different drivers then the hardware in the 1005ha

This has been a known to occur on the 10.6.6 update on most hackintosh computers. what you have to do is backup the kexts that i have outlined in the guide, reinstall the combo update, and follow the steps needed after installing a combo update. You might have to try this multiple times for the usb ports to work again. It has been a problem from hackintosh users since 10.6.6 was released.
You have install the packet IOUSBFamily Rollback found in Multibeast. the order is: Drivers & Bootloaders – Kext & Enablers – Miscellaneous – IOUSBFamily Rollback.

This is a risky way of doing it. The kexts found in Multibeast are made for general use, not specific models of different hardware. By reinstalling the combo update, it has been proven the usb functionality will come back.
Thank you for the quick response but sorry for the confusion .I have a running 1005hab on Snow Leopard 10.6.6. honestly i have solved the problem. Since my message to you on your site. i tried many things but what fixed it was reinstalling the combo update. i do have another problem though. After 30min or so if use my 1005hab it will over heat. If it runs a multi task (time machine) or a add on accessory like a external monitor it will shut down. The only way i have been able to prevent it is to run a fan next to it when using it. i have PNY 2gb ram upgrade + A seagate Momentus 500gb 16mb cache 7200rpm drive. please let me know if you know something i can do to trouble shoot this issue. one last thing. ican hear th fan run on boot.so i think i can asume the fan is running. I read your problem and I went to investigate. And I discovered that the problem is, the cooler of the netbook is turned off when you start Mac OS 10.6.6 (I’m sure this did not happen in 10.6.5). I have also installed Windows and you hear the fan, also when the garment is listening until you load mac. Therefore, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THERE IS A SOLUTION TO LOOK FOR FAST OR NOT USING. I hope I have helped with this, and thanks to ronzo for having communicated the problem. sorry for my English.
Since my last post i tried some tools i found available for MAC`S. SMC Fan Control, CoolBook and FanControl. FanControl had some sporatic control for fan speed and temp control but it seems as if they dont recognize the computer outputs. i wish i could use Coolbook , i belive under volting would be key for better temps and batt life. I currently only clock a 1.5 hour batt. i hope we can work out something to gain control. With all the brain power that flows through this site i belive we can work through this.
Those will not work. Not because of the kernel, actually. It is because it looks for distinct drivers and codecs on the hackintosh are not the same as the ones that are on real macs. Those softwares look for specific hardware that are in real macs (such as the fans and the logic board (mac motherboard) connections). This has been an ongoing issue with hackintosh computers. There has never been (and probably never will be) a fix for this problem.
As far as battery life goes, that is not a result of the operating system bottlenecking the capacity of the battery. It’s a result of the operating system requiring more battery life. I get 1.5 hours on my 1005HAB-BLU001X. On windows, it was getting about 3 hours of battery life. There is NOTHING you can do about either of these problems. They are risks and compromises you take in creating a hackintosh.

I’m not sure what is going on with this installation. My fan works fine. Once the laptop gets to a certain temperature, it kicks the fans on high and shuts off when the netbook has cooled down again.
i cant figure out what im doing wrong. i have the disk image of snow leopard, restored it to a mac os extended journaled partition on both an 8gb sdcard and 8gb flash drive. run myhack_installer_1.1.mpkg and select only the 4 packages. eject the sdcard, put it in my netbook, and boot from sdcard. nothing happens. it stays at a blank screen with just a flashing underscore. im not sure what the problem here is.
i have a 1005hab-blu001x and a imac g5. this should work fine right? why isnt it?
What version of OS X is the iMac running? Tiger? Leopard? Snow Leopard? It could be the way that the disk utility is restoring the disk image. Also, check the insanelymac forum post (located at the top of the guide) as I have also commented there in reference to your screenshot.

i found another guide that helped me out telling me to copy the kexts and dsdt and stuff onto the flash drive as if the hard drive, so it will boot. got snow leopard up and running.
i do have one question though. when using the partition layout, you can boot through bios quicker using boot booster. theres a little partition at the end of the drive for this. is there anyway to get this back?
im following this guide to the letter and its just not working out. i get it installed and booted, so i copy the kext files like it says 9-13 and on reboot the screen resolution isnt right, i cant use my trackpad, cant even use my usb mouse. ill reinstall and maybe ill have better luck. >_<
Not unless you restore your hard drive. The boot booster will make no difference with OS X being your main installation. If you really wanted to get it back, you could restore using your restore CD and restore to an external hard drive, then ghost image the boot booster partition, and then put it back into a new partition on your hackintosh, but that is way too much effort for something that is pretty much useless at this point.

I doubt that can be activated, I think it’s because of the kernel that disables the cooler completely, because if I restart the netbook being in mac, and then start windows, the cooler does not work, I have to turn off the computer to the cooler running again in windows. I hope you have understood.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. As for explaining the issue with the kernel not being a correct match. The battery life is not my main concern. The heat it`s creating is my problem, i truly appreciate your opinion and wisdom on the subject.

I have the same problem, with overheating did it everything by the book (exellent work many many thanks) not noticed before but after 10.6.6 I have overheating /fan problem.
On cold boot, grey apple scren no mater how hot machine is, it kills fan, than after booting I do not hear fan even when playing flash video but it does not seem so hot, another time it is hot like hell and I have two shutowns because of temperature and fan not working at all this time.Plastic start to smell how hot machine was. But after sleep fan starts on max and after some time cools down and silenced and than working like it should In this scenario it is strange that after so much cooling and noise machine is so hot. I can get the grasp of this problem.
Any solutions? Kernel and sleep enabler no go so far.
I need 10.6.6 because it has localization for my language.
I did not use your kernel 10.6.5 as you but 10.60 published at your topic on Insanelymac and I modified dstd for battery and that worked everything else is like you wrote in guide. Everything works flawlessly no problems what so ever I was amazed and then I almost fried machine doing superduper disk image and fan was not working at all, after waking from sleep it works but it is strangly hot for so much noise almost more hot with fan than without I am puzzled.
Other than that everything is went smoothly everything working I was so happy my first hackmack and now I am scared to fry my 1005HA

So I think this is a problem with the new 10.6.6 kernel. I’ve heard of this only on 10.6.6, not anything before it. What I will go ahead and do is post something on the InsanelyMac forums about it and see what people say. I have yet to really put my netbook under any heavy load on 10.6.6, and rarely use it because I mainly use my 15″ Macbook Pro. But check up on the InsanelyMac forum for the post I put up and responses. Glad the guide was helpful for you as well.

Thanks on your quick response and I must say that your guide is one of the best and sistematic guides I ever saw because I am completly mac nob and it went flawleslly from first shot.
Now, most overheating is occured doing cloning or making image on external usb hdd with superduper or carbon copy.
In my case distinction with your updating to 10.6.6 is that i used not 10.6.5 kernel like you but kernel in pckg that is posted on your guide on Insanely Mac maybe that kernel is problem after overheating i tried correspondent sleepenabler for that kernel not the same as you and there is mismatch between your setup and mine and maybe the cause of problems.
I read some stuf about pc control fan and temperature from bios and mac from software and so this is the problem why hacktintoshes have problems with overheating (many desktop users have problems with leopard), then it may be conectet with battery somehow and 2 gig ram dstd change I do not recal problems before I do battery change in dstd. Some folks have theory about usb ports that this all is conected and in conjuction causes overhiting.
Mainly the problem is with cold boot supposedly temperature is so low that dstd not trigers the fan and not trigering it at all before it is put to sleep and than works like it should. In my case even with hot machine after shut down at the momement grey apple screnn starts it kills fan immeadetly. So simple solution may be boot put to slep wake and thats that but even so I have filing that fan is much louder than before and even on that velocity machine is still to hot.
Maybe the problem is in that that cpu is on 1,67 not on 1,66 like before and is reckognized like mac air 1.1 maybe cpu is overclocked I mean litl gem works like champ with 10.6.6.
I will try to change kernel to your 10.6.5 and stay on 10.6.6 or try to downgrade to 10.6.5 but I suspect that is possible?

I forget to mention some guy wrote that with changing temp values in dstd on which fan trigering is solved his problem but then again fan is spinining all the time and taking juice from battery.
It was also mentioning deleting apple intel powermanagment kext and such things but with not much success
i kinda felt like i was pushing a edad issue but i found a solution for my 1005ha-b. I mentioned using fan control. well it had buggy results i found a post on how to remove it. once i removed it i powered down the lap top disconnected the batt. After several seconds i reconnected the battery and the fan is audible and no more sporadic shutdowns. before i removed fan control i maxed out the fan speed and started the curve at the lowest possible temp. I changed the peek temp to 150 fernheight. if any one would me to i will put up some links for the soft ware.

I have something to report also I tried yesterday all I do day before to recreate problem and fan works all the time and I think normal i even tried copying with external usb hdd without power adapter so it takes juice from notebook and it looks like ok, but hotter over all than working on win 7 (i make dual boot yesterday) and then netebook is cooler and make less noise. Wierd all I can say.
Only thing I did not tried is superduper imaging disk when I first noticed how severe problem this is because in normal work it is hotter than win but not at such extent that bootom is unbeareable hot and plastic start to smell like melting.
I am puzzled, so far I saw thre of us with asus with such problem, other hackintosh users have also problems on their desktops even with leopard 10.5.6 distros and so on.

You’re expecting too much. The kernel for 10.6.7 won’t be available for probably about a week or so.

FFor netbooks, it takes much longer because the Kernel doesn’t natively support the Atom processors. When I figure out a way to upgrade, I will post something.

@ronzo how much ram you got and did you do dstd change If you have 1 gb? Maybe the battery is problem? I noticed that problems like to start when battery is almost drain and then when you put powerchord and start charging. Maybe there is somthing in that?
Ssuch erratic accidents make me insecure to livve netbook to work something unattended. Last ime plastic was so hot and smell like burning, second time netbook automaticaly shut down and orange diode was blinking all the time until temperature dropped.
I have two 2gigs of ram. i belive it might be a battery issue becouse ever since i shut the lap top down, removed the battery only used power cord to power up. No problems since, i can even use it like normal now. i can power it any way with no overheat issues. Try booting with the USB key, and select the HDD. If this works, then try repeating step 13 again (running pfix, etc). If that doesn’t solve the problem, continue through the guide, using the USB key to boot the HDD. After updating, if you cant boot from the HDD directly, then you will have to use the USB key to boot each time. This has happened to some people when using this install method.

I tryied booting from HDD, first time without copying the kExt works (800×600 no wifi no sound no keyboard), the 2d time with the copy of kexts and pfix give me lot of errors y boot up from HD ok

Yust to add to the problem of oveheating – new development so far I find 3 people with same problem.
Only diference from the author guide installation is kernel for 10.6.6 update, because it was package from canadianguy tutorial (because ease of use ,- no terminal work with kernel changing)).
Today nearly catastrophy again, I was leave netbook to download with utorrent and came yust in time to see that display was in sleep and so looks like it was the fan.
Plastick smells bad and it was so hot down there, merly touchable. Put lid down, netbok go to sleep, open and fan start to blow full strenght and save the day.
Something in fan-sleep control must be wrong. Beware and follow the guide to the letter mazbe the problem was in kernel changing that was onlz thing that I do not by this guide. For others with same problem I do not know but be causious. And I do dstd patch for batterz and 1 gb of RAM. This is only differencies.
Umm, no. This guide is not derived from candianguy’s tutorial. So don’t start and point fingers like that. I perfected this guide myself, and the 10.6.5 kernel is the 10.6.5 legacy kernel. So don’t say stuff unless you have proof of it. Secondly, I do not support the usage of P2P clients or torrenting, so please do not post this on my site again. Thirdly, like I have continued to say, I have NO solution for this problem. I have posted on InsanelyMac with no help. If enough people comment on the forum post, then someone can look into it in more detail. I don’t write the kernels or drivers or anything, so I cannot help you fix this problem.

I am having quite a bit of trouble with this 10.6.4 Update. I understand all of it except how to enter the codes into Terminal. Can someone tell me exactly how you are supposed to enter the code. I have tried numerous ways and always end up with a kernel panic when I restart the computer. PLEASE HELP!!!
do not put the stars into the code. just copy and paste the codes directly into terminal. make a text file on your computer connected to the internet, and then transfer the file to your hackintosh. then copy and paste them directly into terminal. remember not to include the stars in the codes.

You missunderstooded my point, I did not pointing fingers at you, or at your guide, I yust said that all was good with your guide and then I update kernel from package on canadianguy blog, it was different kernel than on your guide (newer version legacy and package was self installed no work in terminal so this is where I fall) so not yours so maybe that is the problem.
Another difference is that I make dstd patch for my battery myself because I have 1 gig of ram, you have two, so maybe one of that two things is what is the problem. Not you, not your guide, not your kernel, so stick your finger into marmelade ;). I know mine english is bad, but read more carefully ;).
Essentially I was telling people to strictly follow your guide becasue with canadianguy package clearly shit happens ;).
I will try some of this days updating to 10.6.7 with your method ( kernel you suggest and terminal) and that hoppefully should resolve the problem, if not, I am tosted literally. Or fresh installation strictly by your guide.
And btw guide is excellent, as I said earlier so keep it cool dude.If someone who never even smell mac can do it by this tutorial then it must be good, nespa?

Anything besides combo updates or system updates are ok. Software, iLife, iTunes, etc are all fine to update.

This is solution for overheating problem at least in my case, installing AppleAcpiPlatform.kext from this thread solved cut off fan at os x boot (I had to sleep and wake pc every time after fresh boot for fan to work.

For OS X Lion, it is going to be quite some time before the hackintosh community figures out how to install and have it work out of box. Since there will be no physical cd/dvd media, and is replaced with a download instead, it will take a month to a couple months to get it working.

I got bored and tried the dual boot windows 7 with easy bcd and liked it a lot . Then I tried out the triple boot with chameleon boot loader. Now I got a 1005hab running Mac OS X 10.6.7,Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04. With all the goodies. I would love to make a guide! PM me if we can work out a step by step guide or something over insane if u like.I don’t know of a lot of good guides for triple booting for are little machines to perfection.

thanks for what seems like a very well done guide, that I’m planning to follow. But – I’d like to have at least double booting 1005HA (SL & W7pro) – preferrably triple booting (+ Ubuntu 10.04LTS), but Linux is not absolutely crucial if it would make things that much more complicated.
And since I’d like to at least start correctly (don’t mind redoing things a bit, but my biggest concern is to have rely a reliable booting), I’d so much appreciate if there would be a way to at least point me in the right direction (i.e. – which OS to install first, use “Chameleon” or EBCD, etc). Basically – I’ll be starting with replacing a HD (most likely 500GB, partitioning it, etc), so it’s going to be a complete fresh install of everything on one drive of course.
Noticed that there was a brief exchange between you & “ronzo77” on this topic, so just like to know if it has gotten any further or if you could find a moment to help.
And – I truly don’t want to be a pain – from your comments I see (and completely understand/agree with) that your foremost interest/attention should be towards your studies, so see what you can do, if anything about this. Thanks

As far as dual or triple booting, I don’t have a lot of experience doing it myself. What I can tell you is that the easiest way to do it is this: Create the windows and linux partitions first. You want to have both installed and fully working first. As far as upgrading linux after (i.e. upgrading ubuntu from 10.04 to 10.10 for example), I’m not sure if this is possible once OS X is installed, because it also upgrades GRUB, which could screw up the Chameleon bootloader. So make sure you like the version of linux you are on before you install OS X.
Once both windows and linux are installed, then insert the USB and install OS X by following my guide. After all is set and done, when you boot from your hard drive, Chameleon should recognize and see both the linux and windows partitions and you should be able to select each and boot to them perfectly fine.
Hope this helps and works for you. Post again if you have any further questions or problems.

How did you go about updating to 10.6.8? Never update until there is a secure release via my guide or via my insanelymac topic. Did you backup the old intelgma950 kext and the intelgraphics kext? If not, then you are in trouble because that is the only way to keep the graphics in their native resolution of 1024×600.

Just wanted to tell you thank you for an outstanding guide! I really can’t tell you how much I appreciated the clear instruction and thorough documentation.
Everything went great, and my 1005HA-PU1X-BK is working 100%! No glitches, no problems, wifi, bluetooth, ethernet, battery (I have 2GB of RAM also, so didn’t edit the DSDT.aml at all).
My system fans are also working perfectly, I didn’t need to do the battery trick, or revert to older AppleAHCI kexts. Not sure if this is relevant or helpful to others, but I installed 10.6.0 -> 10.6.4 -> 10.6.5 -> 10.6.6 -> 10.6.7, following your steps to replace the kernel, reboot, rebuild kexts with ‘pfix’, reboot, then continue to the next version each time. Took all day! But the result is worth it.
For future reference, is it necessary to follow that upgrade path, or can one jump from 10.6.0 straight to 10.6.7 (as long as they have the GMA950, IntelFramebuffer, and IO80211Family kexts, and perhaps the wifi (post 10.6.4) kext)?
Also, the 10.6.8 Combo installer is available, and looks to follow the same process as the 10.6.6 and 10.6.7 updates. Would the 10.6.5 ‘mach_kernel_atom’ work in 10.6.8 if one followed the same process? Have you run into any issues with this in your testing and experimentation with 10.6.8?
I know you mentioned that performance would be better with the 10.70 legacy kernel, but I’m quite pleased with the 10.6.5 kernel (10.40, right?) so far. Maybe you could give us a brief update of what you’ve found so far, and an idea of whether a guide for the 10.6.8 update may be coming soon?

Not having nearly as much luck 😦 After creating the hackintosh sd card (and tried on 8gb flash drive too with same result), I can get to the boot loader select the drive. The Apple icon appears with the rotating status indicator and after about 2 minutes of this, the computer just shuts itself off. It is a new unit that runs fine with Windows, just doesn’t want to cooperate with loading osx.
After building the SD card (and I’ve tried USB flash drive) my 1005HA is powering itself off after selecting the USB (or sd card) from the boot loader. I see the apple icon and spinning throbber, but after 2 minutes of this it just kicks the bucket. I’ve tried several different osx retail images as well. Thoughts? I am so close I can taste it, but after 2 days, I am breaking down and asking for help. HELP!
Since its the usb thats causing the issue (or SD card) there are so many things that can go wrong that would cause such problems. Best bet is to completely reread the guide and just read it, not do anything, and see if you pickup on any mistakes.

After upgrading the BIOS, trying 5 different retail images, then almost giving up, I hit tab in the bootloader to get to extra options. When prompted to select a partition (in my case 1), I entered the following:
1 -v -s -f
Apparently my Asus has some piece of hardware that the OSX install couldn’t handle. Therefore, your guide was right on… got lucky after adding the -f to the verbose and safe mode. I am now up to 10.6.7 and writing this post from the 1005ha!

Great tutorial. Thanks for putting the time into this for all. I have a comment a few questions. First of all, for step 8, you mentioned:
‘Shut your computer completely down. Turn it on and hold ESC so you can boot from the USB again. Yes, the usb, not the hard drive. When the Chameleon bootloader appears, select your internal hard drive, not the USB/sd card’.
This was a bit ambiguous because after pressing escape on startup, you get the BIOS asking what source you want to use to load the OS. After selecting USB, on the next screen you must again press a key to get to the Chameleon choices to then choose the hard drive. It’s a small mistake but the last step is important.
I’ve successfully got to 10.6.5, but have held off on 10.6.6 because of the overheating issues I’ve read in this post’s comments. My question is: how can I make a complete backup in case I need to restore? I have read Carbon Copy Cloner is not as reliable for this [hackintosh] circumstance but SuperDuper is the better choice. What do you recommend for making a complete backup to an external drive?
My last question is regarding bluetooth: Everything seems to work for me on my Asus 1005HAB except there is no bluetooth option in the System Preferences. Any idea why this is missing?

As far as shutting your computer off and booting via the usb, its critical that you boot via the usb chameleon rather than the hard drive chameleon until you patch everything. thats why thats worded the way it is. As far as backing up software, I’m not really sure what the best option is. I always heard carbon copy is the best, but i personally don’t use anything. I use an external seagate drive and use their automatic backup software to backup the major folders that i need stuff from. As far as bluetooth in your 1005HAB, you don’t have bluetooth. Everyone thinks there is bluetooth in this model but there isn’t. Yes, in windows it has a section for bluetooth management, but there is no physical bluetooth chip inside the computer. At least for mine there isn’t.

I have a 1001HA with a 160GB Seagate and 2GBRam.
I installed 10.6.3 with Netbookinstaller on it and its works fine, except for the HDD bootloader, that I cant make work.
Should I nuke the HDD and do it once more? I have 10.6.3 from the app store only, no 10.6.0. Will your package work in spite of that – or is there an easier way to get a working bootloader?
The myhackinstaller might not work with 10.6.3. You’d have to research that on your own. If you get a flawless 10.6.3 installation, you can use my guide to update to 10.6.7 no problem, people have done it in the past.

Oops, I forgot – I disabled sleep at all and my Ralink Wireless Utility drops radio from time to time, although the signal is displayed as “good” in the RWU Link Status pane. My workaround in turning the radio button in the utility off and on again.
Performance of the cpu is roughly 40% better than with XP metered by SheepShaver´s MiniBench2 rating. Battery uptime is about 120 minutes with the small Li-akku, compared to 160 minutes approx. running XP.
The Eee-X already is a cool little machine – even more as a OS7.6 retro netbook with SheepShaver running full screen.

Idk what your problem is. Trying booting with verbase mode (-v on chameleon) and figure out where the booting process is hanging up. And since it’s the 1008HA, I’m unsure if I could even help you with your problem

so, is there a fairly safe way to upgrade to 10.6.8 already? somewhat the same like the 10.6.5 to 10.6.7 upgrade?
there are important patches now in 10.6.8 concerning diginotar and globalsign ssl certifcates that I’d like to have patched on the hackintosh.
You should be able to upgrade to 10.6.8 the same ways as you upgraded to any of the other combo updates. There are going to be some fan/heat issues as there have been in the past and, as far as I know, there aren’t any patches or fixes to prevent this from happening.

A word of caution: After having a smoothly running Hackintosh at 10.6.7, I used Tinkertool to try to adjust the font size for the system. That was a mistake because upon reboot, I keep getting a kernel panic. Luckily, I made a full bootable backup before trying this so I should be fine.

Any kind of applications for modding anything like that (tinkertool as an example) should not be used because the program assumes you are running it on a native mac and might modify some the kexts or library files, which would work fine on a regular mac but not a hackintosh (since we have modded files, kext, and how the entire operating system interacts with the computer).

A quick follow-up: After rebooting from my external USB drive which had a complete copy (via SuperDuper) of my Hackintosh internal drive running 10.6.7, I opened Disk Utility and selected my internal Asus drive, repaired the permissions on the volume and tried to reboot from the internal drive. It worked and there seem to be no problems.

I’m guessing some other kext might be involved having to be moved from 10.6.7 into the kext folder under 10.6.8 ?
This is why I have not released a 10.6.8 update guide. Also the fact that there are a lot of bugs in updating to 10.6.8 once you actually get there.

I’m fairly new to hackintoshin’. Basically this is a try before you buy session for me.
I want to get a MacOSx laptop soon, but I’m not investing into it without exploring the operating system.
As I’m fairly new, it also means I’m not that wellknown into the backup and restore procedures and options. So I spend an extensive amount of time redo’ing several installations from 10.6.0 -> 4 -> 5 -> 7 -> 8.
I’ve managed to get it upgraded to 10.6.8, but not in the regular sense.
I’ve backed up the regular kept:
– AppleIntelGMA950.kext
– AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext
– IO80211Family.kext
After this I downloaded the 10.6.8 update. Not the combo as I was already at 10.6.7. It saved me half a gig downloading.
Also download the legacy kernel and sleeper kext from Nawcom blogpost here http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=791. Direct legacy package url: http://blog.nawcom.com/legacy_kernel-10.6.8.v2.pkg.zip

Steps taken:
– run the 10.6.8 update, DO NOT REBOOT
– place the IO80211Family.kext back into s/l/e
– run the legacy kernel package
– copy the legacy kexts into /extra/extentions/
– run pfix
– reboot
Why didn’t I run the video drivers at the moment? in the first few tries I had 1 successful reboot loading everything properly. On the second reboot everything seems to work normal, except for the desktop consisting of purple square blocks and unreadable screens.
As I don’t know how to boot into a safety mode where I can easily replace faulty kexts or run a backup from a network TimeMachine (yes, network, not local usb drive)…
I need some help figuring out what’s wrong with the gfx driver.
Issues solved.
DO NOT move the AppleIntelGMA950.kext into s/l/e
Only move the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext into s/l/e
run pfix and reboot.
10.6.8 is running.

Hey, So I’m having problems with booting up the Installation USB. I Followed every single step up to trying to boot up the MAC OS X INSTALL usb, and every time, it shuts off after two minutes. What can I do? I even did what the other guy did with the -v -s -f thing.

ok, so this time i did cpus=1 ( I assume on the screen with the chameleon background.) Still shuts down after 2 minutes.
At that point I have to assume you didn’t create the USB drive properly. I would try rebuilding the USB drive.

Thats very possible because of the way Disk Utility was updated. I would be that would cause it not to work properly.

Okay, so I installed snow leopard onto a seperate partition on my macbook pro, made the usb, and then installed myhack, booted into asus perfectly :3

I’m trying to install OS X 10.6 on my Asus Eee PC 1005HA.
After copying all the kexts, and while running the ‘pfix’ code, the following windows pop up (one for each kext, not just the AppleIntelGMA950.kext):
“System extension cannot be used
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.”
Then on reboot none of the kexts have taken effect.
Any ideas? I’ve tried copying them using both Terminal and Finder and installing them using Kext Helper b7.

Try taking out that kext (The AppleIntelGMA950.kext) and then running pfix. This will tell me if you made the USB key right and/or installed OS X properly. If the kexts install properly, then its that kext thats corrupting pfix from running properly.

However, the message pops up for each kext and not just AppleIntelGMA950.kext. Won’t that mean that there’s a different issue?
I’m asking because you’ve been referring specifically to AppleIntelGMA950.kext, so I think you may have missed that I said (in my original comment) one for each kext, not just the AppleIntelGMA950.kext.
I have no idea whether that particular kext is likely to be a problem or not, so I’m just making sure that you know all the details and didn’t misread what I said. 🙂

Tried this on my 1005HA, and got to the point where OS X setup said something like”Instalation failed… Can’t copy files”. At that time it still had around 20 minutes left (according to setup, and progress bar was about third way through). I thought “OK, no big deal, it’s in the tutorial that this might happen”. After restart Chameleon didn’t see my HDD (just install USB).
Tried this several times, with several driver (GB and 16GB), the same result.
Any clues what could go wrong?
Specs:
Asus 1005HA (model with smaller battery and no bluetooth)
Atom N270
2GB Ram
160 GB HDD
The installation is known to fail. You have to boot with the USB key FIRST, then the hard drive will appear, and boot to the hard drive. Note: you are booting chameleon FROM THE USB KEY to see the hard drive. The hard drive won’t appear off a hard drive chameleon boot.

This might be my fifteenth time trying to get sl to work on my asus.
Can’t get past the gray apple load screen when I boot up my usb stick on my netbook – as in, my netbook recognizes that there’s a mac os install disk on the usb stick, but when I click it, it just hangs on the apple.
Did everything to the letter. Any suggestions as to what this could be or how to fix it?

I’ve posted responses to this before. If you create the USB stick with Disk Utility in OS X Lion, then you will run into this problem. Either install Snow Leopard on a different partition on your Lion Machine and use that disk utility, or use a mac that is running Leopard or Snow Leopard and create the USB stick that way.

Ok I took an older SL USB I had used for my hackintosh PC and ran the backpack file. Copied over the files needed (I think) and when I boot off the usb I see the gray apple screen and the swirly but then the computer just shuts off….

Great guide, thanks for posting. I am still having problems after updating to 10.6.6 getting the wifi to work, it recognizes the card but still wont connect to a network. Does it have something to do with the country code? If so, is there a fix? Thanks in advance.

Is the wifi card disabled in the BIOS of the netbook? Check there and report back what the setting is on.

The reason is because you are using Tiger 10.4.8. This guide is made for SNOW LEOPARD. Older versions of OS X will NOT work with this guide.

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding. I’m using a Snow Leopard 10.6.0 disk image, but trying to create the USB (with the SL dmg) in Tiger.
Ahh, ok that makes more sense. In that case, you are still in a jam. OS X Tiger has a different way of restoring Disk Image files (just like Lion has a different way). You need to use either OS X Leopard (10.5) or Snow Leopard (10.6) to get the installation to run properly.

Every time I try to do this it freezes at the Apple logo after selecting the flash drive from Chameleon. Just sits there, doesn’t even make it to the install screen. WHAT GIVES?!?!?! I have followed the excruciating slow steps to a T and never never never do I get ANYTHING. UGH WTF.
First, please calm down. I don’t want to tell you how many times I had to reinstall OS X when making this guide. I had the number written down at one point, it was close to 150.

great guide, but i get stuck when booting my 1003hag from the usb stick for the first time.
usb stick was created using snow leopard.
i can boot chameleon and choose the installer then i see a grey apple and after a few seconds i get a message telling me to reboot.
i tried “-v -s -f” and get this panic message:

That is because the 1003 is a different model. This is for 1005HA/1000HE/1000H/1005HAB. The 1003 has different hardware.

Well you can just get an 8gb sd card for $10 and then follow the guide to make a working bootable “usb” drive. Then you have both operating systems without having the hassle of reinstalling windows.

1st off, thanks for an awesome guide! Used it with absolutely amazing results.
Somewhere along the upgrade path to 10.6.7 I have had two small issues pop up that I thought maybe you could help me address;
1) My sound seems to be messed up and I have a hiss coming from the speakers 100% of the time unless I am set to mute. Any ideas on how to fix this? (Not terribly worried, but it can be a bit annoying)
2) My SD card reader isn’t being recognized by OSX anymore. I have to be honest, I’m not sure exactly what point along the way it stopped. I’m pretty certain it was working alright in 10.6.5 though.

WordPress was acting weird earlier. As far as this goes, this was an issue resolved earlier on this blog. By reinstalling the combo update, and following the correct steps to install the update, then this should resolve the issues you’re having.

You cannot reinstall the 10.6.6 update. Once you upgrade to a newer version, there is no way to downgrade to a lower version.

So I have my 1005HAB running great, the one thing I’m stuck on is WiFi. While I’m at work the wifi on the laptop works fine but at home it would see the wifi signal but I could not get internet connectivity. Any ideas?

I’ve followed the instructions to setup the usb drive to a T but when I got to boot from it and choose the USB drive, all that shows is the apple icon and no moving wheel. It sits there forever and nothing happens.
Any ideas? I’m very tech savy but stuck here.

I’m using a Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Install DVD to image by usb. I was able to successfully install with iAtkos S3 V2 but when I tried to update to 10.6.5 the installer would give me the JavaScript evaluating error and I have not found a way to edit the volumeCheck() list file.
Therefore, I am trying to install 10.6.3 and up your way but am stuck at the apple logo.
I cannot help you with iatkos. It never works properly for this model. Hence why I made this guide. You have to use a retail 10.6 disk. Not 10.6.3. I will not tell you where to get this disk free. Go on eBay and buy it or on amazon. I do not support piracy of software!

Techno, thanks for replying. I found the 10.6 DVD finally. Everything installed great. However, I can not seem to find pfix anywhere. Can you tell me where it is? The Dropbox link didn’t run correctly when pasting into terminal.

Question on your best advice / a link to how to get the wireless working? I got 10.6.2 up and going but I cannot get the wireless running. I have tried every guide I could find including yours but everytime, something goes wrong and makes me reinstall the OS giving me the grey “you must reboot your computer” loop. Also would simply updating to 10.6.7 fix this? thanks for any info!
The wireless card did not start working until 10.6.5 I believe. You need to install up to 10.6.5 without the networking kext and the once on 10.6.5 then put the networking kext in and run pfix.

It seems that is related to sleepenabler kext. I didn’t change it or anything else 😦 Maybe it should be deleted from the system after installing update and before restarting and then copied again to system with the rest of kexts on the Desktop? Thanks for your help….
Try that and see what happens. Sleepenabler always causes problems, its a critical but funky kext. Let me know how this goes.

Purchased a retail copy of Snow Leopard from Apple… they sent me the 10.6.3 version. I had specified 10.6, and I am curious as to why won’t the 10.6.3 version work?
Version 10.6.2 stopped Intel Atom Support. You need 10.6 because you use that kernel as a base to keep the atom support running for the remaining updates. 10.6.3 can work but its unstable.

Not that I know of. Like I said, you can use 10.6.3, but its not that stable. There are guides to use 10.6.3, but my guide is considered the most comprehensive and easiest.

Don’t type this out. It’s hard to pinpoint where you’re having a problem if you’re trying to type this. copy and paste the code into a text doc and put it on a flash drive and then paste the code into terminal. Let me know if you’re still having a problem after this.

Running install, when booting to the usb drive it shows the apple logo and spinning wheel but then powers off after about 5 minutes. Pc is fully charged and never shuts off when running windows. any ideas?
Please read the comments. Did you make the flash drive using a computer running OS X 10.7 (Lion)? This could cause the flash drive to crash. The flash drive MUST BE CREATED with OS X 10.5 or 10.6 (Leopard or Snow Leopard).

I have yet to hear a problem about either of these working. Please provide details of your computer (model, amount of ram, etc). Have you tried reinstalling the combo update?
